The 55-State Union Series Sports Almanac - Canadian Football League - Overview and Clubs
The Canadian Football League (CFL) is the highest level of Canadian football in the world, and consists exclusively of teams based in Canada. Officially formed in 1958 following a merger of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union and the Western Interprovincial Football Union, the CFL is one of Canada's most-watched sports leagues and broadcasts in other countries including the United States. There are 12 teams in the league, and each team plays 20 games in the regular season. The Grey Cup is the championship game at the end of the season, and the namesake trophy is given to the winners of the Grey Cup. The Grey Cup dates back to 1909, making it one of the oldest professional sports trophies in North American sports.
