Heston, the capital city of the U.S. state of Altamasstachia, is also the principal city of the Heston-Kingdom City-Richfield metropolitan statistical area, which is the fourth-largest urban area in the state. The Heston metropolitan area boasts a total population of 1,079,521 according to the 2021 estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau.
When the United States annexed Altamasstachia and established it as a territory in 1807, citizens of the Altamasstachia territory voted to establish a new city in present-day Hamilton County as the territorial capital, which they named after Abraham Heston (1730-1798), a Revolutionary War general and rancher from Virginia who became an outspoken advocate of incorporating Altamasstachia into the Union. Heston, a planned city, was fully completed just before the outbreak of the American Civil War, in which Altamasstachia sent troops on the Union side of the conflict. On May 30, 1865, Altamasstachia became the 38th state in the Union, making Heston the state capital of Altamasstachia. On that same day, Robert Norman Lassiter (1807-1893) became the state's first governor and the state's counties were officially established, starting at 192 and growing until 1971, when the 550th and most recent county was created (Flowerdew County, which as 2014, has since been re-named to Obama County). With the construction of railroads all over the state, Heston would soon, like Olympia and Saint Ann, flourish under the Industrial Revolution as what had been a predominantly agricultural area would spin off into the industries of minerals, jewelry, gold, silver and mining operations that were headquartered in Heston (with many mines and quarries operating to this day in the Clapton Range, Great Forested Hills, Ruckerts Land, Crimson Hills and York Country), as well as output concentrated in steel, iron and chemicals. As the state capital, Heston is Altamasstachia's political center and it is also considered the economic and cultural core of the Southern Central Plains region. Heston is the headquarters of all state agencies as well as the Altamasstachia Bowling Federation, Altamasstachia Baseball League, Altamasstachia All-Pro Football League, Altamasstachia Basketball League and Altamasstachia Hockey League. It is also the home of the National Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame as well as the National Bowling Stadium, and is also the host city of the Altamasstachia State Fair. Alta Oil, the state-owned petroleum company, is headquartered in Heston as are five other Fortune 1000 companies. Heston is served by a freeway network (Altamasstachia State Freeway Routes 17, 20, 220), the state's railroad network (the Olympia-Heston-Grantchester Railroad) and Heston International Airport in McClusken. Plemons Air Force Base is located north of Heston in Banner County, and is serviced by Altamasstachia State Freeway Route 17. The Heston metropolitan area is home to the University of Altamasstachia in Allandale (home of the Knights), the John Ronald Steuben College of the Law (a graduate institution of the University of Altamasstachia) in Heston, Altamasstachia Presbyterian University in Kingdom City (home of the Blue Jays) and the Altamasstachia Islamic Institute in Heston. In professional sports, the Heston metropolitan area plays host to the Heston Silverswords and Surrey Trendsetters of the Altamasstachia Bowling Federation, the Heston Imperials of the Altamasstachia Baseball League, the Heston Hogskins of the Altamasstachia All-Pro Football League, the Heston Eclipse of the Altamasstachia Basketball League and the Heston Checkers of the Altamasstachia Hockey League. Proud in its traditions and looking ever upward, the politicians and politicos involved in state business make the decisions in Heston that affect all Altamasstachians and guide the state in the right direction as the most liberal state in the Union.
The city of Heston is divided into 23 distinct neighborhoods.
