The U.S. state of Zeconnemeleth (pronounced this way: Zeh-con-nah-ma-leth) is divided into 56 counties (the maximum amount of counties allowable under state law), which serve a population of 4,084,101 inhabitants as of the 2020 census. The average county population according to the 2020 U.S. census for Zeconnemeleth was measured at 39,588. The most populous county in Zeconnemeleth is Kanahrahtens County at 1,069,641 inhabitants while the least populous county is Bolden County at 6,107 inhabitants. All counties in Zeconnemeleth are charter counties, meaning that each county possesses a unique set of laws that form the legal foundation of the system of government in that respective jurisdiction and so many of the various local laws in the state vary by county (although some issues require the state government to be involved). 

The island of Zeconnemeleth was annexed by the state of North Carolina during the American Revolutionary War, and was administered by the North Carolina government as the Protectorate of Zeconnemeleth, similar to the District of Maine (which was in the possession of Massachusetts from 1780 to 1820). When Zeconnemeleth was a protectorate of North Carolina from 1779 to 1861 until its secession from North Carolina, it was divided into three counties by North Carolina's legislature - North Zeconnemeleth County, Central Zeconnemeleth County and South Zeconnemeleth County. After Zeconnemeleth became a territory of the United States following its secession from North Carolina (which was a direct result of North Carolina joining the Confederate States), the three original counties under North Carolina rule were split up into 43 counties, which grew to the current 56 counties from 1863 to 1927. In 1928, a new law was passed that prohibited the creation of any new counties in the territory and endures in the Zeconnemeleth state constitution, and the 56 counties became codified in law as indissoluble on July 3, 2002 (the day Zeconnemeleth was admitted into the Union as the 55th and newest state). Owing to the inspirations of early civic leaders who took from ancient Greek philosophies on politics and government, and largely to the Greek heritage from immigrants who settled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of Zeconnemeleth's counties are named for Greek mythological characters, figureheads and places. Other county names may refer to certain geographical places or be named for local politicians and important figureheads.

b. Coincidentally, Deucalion is also the name of the mascot of the University of Zeconnemeleth, located in Sparta, Zeconnemeleth.
