Interstate Highways in Superior

There are four primary Interstate highways - Interstate 39 (I-39). Interstate 43 (I-43), Interstate 75 (I-75), and Interstate 98 (I-98) - and three auxiliary Interstate highways - Interstate 143 (I-143), Interstate 339 (I-339), and Interstate 443 (I-443) - in the U.S. state of Superior. These Interstate highways were built and are maintained by the Superior Department of Transportation (SUDOT). Planned from 1957 to 1975, and constructed from 1957 to 1986, the Interstate Highway System is a vital infrastructure network that connects the state and helps facilitate traffic across Superior and its major cities. Due to the weather in the state throughout the year, SUDOT has used variable speed limits on all of Superior's Interstate highways since 1995. During the spring, summer and fall, the maximum speed limit on Interstates 39, 43, 75 and 98 is 75 mph (120 km/h) and the maximum speed limit during those seasons on Interstates 143, 339 and 443 is 65 mph (105 km/h). During the winter, the maximum speed limit on all Interstate highways in Superior is 55 mph (90 km/h).

Memorial Highway" in honor of Sidney Gilbert Alexander (1819-1882), the civic leader who rallied citizens across the region for statehood and the development of its economic system, and became the first governor of Superior (which he served as from 1857 to 1865). I-98 links Superior to the Duluth, Minnesota/Superior, Wisconsin area, Bemidji, Minnesota area and the Grand Forks, North Dakota area.
