Re: Superior, Wisconsin (Say hello to East Duluth, Wisconsin!)

A map of the Duluth, MN/East Duluth, WI area, with Superior on the right (click to enlarge). I must admit that I made an oversight when I originally submitted the posts on this blog about the state of Superior, as well as the respective Interstate highways that run through Minnesota and Wisconsin – I had left the name of Superior, Wisconsin unchanged even though there would likely be a great deal of confusion with the state of Superior nearby (they're about 80 miles apart). While I acknowledge that in OTL (our timeline) Superior, WI derived its name from Lake Superior, the state of Superior gets first priority as the name "Superior" was popular and the first choice for their state's new name amongst the movement for statehood in what was then the Upper Peninsula of Michigan back in the 1820s-1850s, while OTL Superior, WI was founded in 1854 (three years before Superior became a state ITTL (in this timeline)). Interstate Highways in Superior

Image
There are four primary Interstate highways - Interstate 39 (I-39) . Interstate 43 (I-43) , Interstate 75 (I-75) , and Interstate 98 (I-98)  - and three auxiliary Interstate highways - Interstate 143 (I-143) , Interstate 339 (I-339) , and Interstate 443 (I-443)  - in the U.S. state of Superior. These Interstate highways were built and are maintained by the Superior Department of Transportation (SUDOT). Planned from 1957 to 1975, and constructed from 1957 to 1986, the Interstate Highway System is a vital infrastructure network that connects the state and helps facilitate traffic across Superior and its major cities. Due to the weather in the state throughout the year, SUDOT has used variable speed limits on all of Superior's Interstate highways since 1995. During the spring, summer and fall, the maximum speed limit on Interstates 39, 43, 75 and 98 is 75 mph (120 km/h) and the maximum speed limit during those seasons on Interstates 143, 339 and 443 is 65 mph (105 km/h). During th...
